- Believe it or not, gas and acid in the car battery can evaporate. In order to prolong battery life and avoid running on empty, drivers can park their cars in a shaded area during peak sun hours.
- Low tire pressure can make a car’s wheels susceptible to failure, especially when the pavement is extremely hot. It is essential to check tire pressure on a regular basis so that this problem does not cause a serious accident.
- Just like people would not skimp on Wisconsin home insurance, they shouldn’t choose an auto policy based on price alone. There are countless things that can go wrong when cars are driven in extreme heat, which is why it is important for individuals to have a comprehensive insurance plan.
The above tips can help protect Wisconsin residents’ transportation investments and even save their lives. However, it’s not just individuals who have to worry about travel safety. Employers should also take extra precautions to ensure that their work vehicles are kept up to par in the heat.

Shopping Around For Cheap Car Insurance Could Help UK Households
August 31, 2011, Press Dispensary. Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed that the annual inflation rate reached 4.4% in July. This is up from June’s rate of 4.2% and it is thought to be continuing on an upward trend, potentially reaching 5% over the next few months.
The price of food and household goods has increased rapidly in recent months while income has not, leaving large numbers of families out of pocket and struggling to cope.
The main costs that have risen over the last year are fuel, air fares, train fares and car insurance. Household costs have also increased with the cost of utilities such as water and electricity having the highest increase in two years.
All of these factors mean that consumers have to work harder to economise and balance the books and it doesn’t look to be easing in the near future.
The ONS figures suggest that transport is a major area of concern. In the last 12 months air fares have risen 12.5%, petrol and diesel 15.1% and rail fares by 9.3%. When you marry this up with the rising cost of car insurance it doesn’t paint a pretty picture, particularly for commuters who are reliant upon something other than Shanks’ pony to get to work and back!
Those seeking cheap car insurance may have been relieved to hear that prices fell in July compared to June, but year on year increases have been so steep that it is unlikely anyone will feel the benefit.
A spokesperson from car insurance comparison site Tiger.co.uk said, “Consumers in the UK will undoubtedly be feeling the crunch at the moment, but there is no reason why having a car should be an unaffordable luxury. There are ways to economise on motoring. Using comparison sites to seek out affordable car insurance quotes, driving vehicles with smaller engines, reducing annual mileage and keeping the car well maintained are just a few of the ways drivers can make sure they are keeping the costs of motoring down”.

The average price for car insurance in NI is now more than £920
The Consumer Council has asked the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to examine the car insurance market in NI.
Premiums in Northern Ireland remain much higher than elsewhere in the UK.
Research by the consumer group found that premiums were, on average, 84% higher. The average price for car insurance in NI is now more than £920.
The council had previously asked Stormont to investigate, but has now gone to the Office of Fair Trading.
The Consumer Council said they had carried out research which showed that premiums had risen by over 70% from two years ago.
It said the cost of car insurance was a “big issue” for people in NI.
The consumer group said action was needed so motorists were not forced out of their cars or to drive illegally without insurance.
Higher costs
It said there was a strong reliance on motor vehicles in NI, with over 80% of all journeys between 2008 and 2010, made using a car.
NI motorists also face higher petrol and diesel costs than the rest of the UK.
The organisation said “practical action” can and must be taken to lower premiums for consumers in Northern Ireland.
The Consumer Council wants the Department of Justice and the justice committee at Stormont to examine the costs associated with claims, such as compensation, legal/administrative fees and claims management referrals.
In a statement, the Association of British Insurers said the level of damages awarded for personal injury claims was higher in Northern Ireland than in England and Wales.
Capped
It said a minor whiplash claim in England and Wales was generally between £500 and £2,000 while in Northern Ireland it could be up to £8,000.
The statement also highlighted that property damage-only claims are dealt with in the county courts in Northern Ireland, a process that was much more expensive than the small claims procedure used in England and Wales.
The small claims limit is capped at £2,000 in NI, compared to £5,000 in England.
This means low value claims which could easily be handled in the small claims court are dealt with in the more expensive county court.
The OFT enforces consumer law and has wide-ranging powers of investigation. The move by the Consumer Council could lead to an OFT investigation in this area, however, it will not do so automatically as it is not a so-called super complaint.
The council is also launching a petition for consumers on its website and is inviting members of the public to detail their experiences of getting car insurance in Northern Ireland.
The Consumer Council has also been working with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) to ensure consumers are doing all they can themselves to lower their insurance costs.
It has produced a leaflet Driving Down the Cost of Car Insurance.
